Kent - Owner
Kent Winchester attended the Universities of Hawaii and Oregon, earning an undergraduate degree in Political Science. Following the Peace Corps, in Sierra Leone, West Africa, Kent completed a Masters degree in Education from Gallaudet University. He then went on to work at Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf; specializing in Career Counseling, Team Building, Multicultural Education, Adapted Physical Education and Leadership Training. Kent founded the RIT Red Barn Outdoor Experiential Education and Leadership Training Program. He was a mentor to more than 25 world-wide Outward Bound Interns.
After teaching and encouraging students and staff "to take risks,” he realized he needed to follow that advice and a long-time dream. Leaving his tenured, senior professor position, Kent opened RockVentures in 1995. Since then he has hosted the American Mountain Guide Association, Fortune 500 Companies, and others over the past seventeen years. Kent is a certified DiSC Behavior Profile and OutComm(tm) Visual Mapping Facilitator and assist s groups to achieve consensus on Mission and Vision Statements, and other Strategic Objectives.
Kent's latest career interests are to provide Transition to Civilian Life Seminars for Combat Veterans. Seminars build upon strengths and skills and include experiential, adventure education and part-time work.
Kent and his wife Ginny, have recently built a cabin up in the Town of Wanakena, the more remote part of the Adirondack State Park. Four children, 5 grand children, spouses, growing extended families... we are very lucky.
Jon - Senior Manager
Jon Gillan comes to RockVentures with fresh ideas, training and skills including, team building, new websites, social media marketing, day/summer camps and special events like our Climbing Club.
Jon is 28 years old and has over 10 years of team building and challenge course experience. Having worked at Camp Stella Maris for 9 years he became the Director of the Adventure Based Learning Experience (ABLE) program at CSM. Jon left CSM in 2010 to pursue his passion and dream of working with people through team building. Since then, Jon has created and led leadership workshops for over 100 corporations, organizations and youth programs in the north east.
Jon resides in the city of Rochester with fiance.
