History

Established in 1995.

Kent Winchester, after completing a Masters degree in Education from Gallaudet University, went on to work at Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf; specializing in career counseling, team building, multicultural education, adapted physical education and leadership training. Kent founded the RIT Red Barn  Outdoor and Leadership Training Program and was a mentor to more than 25 world-wide Outward Bound Interns. After teaching and encouraging students and staff “to take risks,” he realized he needed to follow that advice and a long-time dream.  Leaving his tenured, senior professor position, Kent opened RockVentures in 1995, offering 18,000 square feet of climbing surface, a full-sized indoor high and low ropes course,  climbing classes, leagues, birthday parties, camps, youth and scouting events
